Remembrance Day ~ Lest We Forget

I think of my Dad often since he passed away.  But Remembrance Day is the day I feel his presence the most.  Dad served in the Korean War.  My brothers were also in the Armed Forces.  Many of my relatives  served in different theatres of war and peacekeeping ~ this is in Remembrance of them as well ~

IN FLANDERS FIELDS POEM

The World’s Most Famous WAR MEMORIAL POEM
By Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

Lieutenant Colonel John McCraeIn Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead: Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved: and now we lie
In Flanders fields!

Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

Composed at the battlefront on May 3, 1915
during the second battle of Ypres, Belgium

11 o’clock on the eleventh day of November was chosen because it is the exact time and date that the First World War ended with the signing of the Armistice with Germany in 1918.excerpt taken fromhttp://goaustralia.about.com/b/2011/11/10/remembranceday.htm

Desert Hills ~ Ashcroft , B.C.~ Pumpkins Everywhere ~

We’ve always enjoyed the vegetables and fruit that Desert Hills in Ashcroft sells in the summer.  Good product ~ Great Prices !  Last weekend we had the pleasure of enjoying time with our daughter and Grandsons at Desert Hills.  They put on quite a show with “The Pumpkinator”  where they put pumpkins in a type of “canon” and blew them into the sky. What a fun time !  They had pumpkins everywhere …

Beautiful displays …

Ann Matthews ~ Occasional Occasions

I was looking through some memory cards and discovered these photos that I had taken of our friend Ann Matthews on a visit awhile back.  This lady is the best caterer on Vancouver Island.  She works out of her beautiful custom kitchen (thanks to her hubby Steve ~ who happens to be an awesome carpenter/builder)  I felt like doing this blog on her because she truly is an amazing Chef and she is a woman who has such a genuine passion & pride in  her work.  If you ever have a chance to enjoy Occasional Occasions catering your in for a treat!   Like Ann says on her site  ~  All of us have special memories where food, beautifully prepared, has magically transported us. The memory is priceless and can last a lifetime. That  is what we strive for.~
