He was sworn in to The Royal Canadian Engineers March 3, 1949. He retired on August 6, 1980. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong> Dad served in the Korean War from April 1951 to May 1952. &nbsp;He was a Sapper \/Field Engineer. &nbsp;He deactivated land mines and built bridges while serving there. In my opinion he had nerves of steel.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dad ~ January 5, 1930 &#8211; July 31, 1992 ~&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4517\" src=\"http:\/\/www.aprilrobertsportraits.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/DADBLOG.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"890\" height=\"668\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.aprilrobertsportraits.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/DADBLOG.jpg 890w, http:\/\/www.aprilrobertsportraits.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/DADBLOG-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.aprilrobertsportraits.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/DADBLOG-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.aprilrobertsportraits.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/DADBLOG-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 890px) 100vw, 890px\" \/><\/p>\n<h1 id=\"wb-cont\">Korean War (1950 \u00e2\u20ac\u201c 1953)<\/h1>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<p><strong>The Korean War was fought from 1950 to 1953. More than 26,000 Canadians served on land, at sea and in the air during this bitter conflict in a rugged land so far from home. Sadly, 516 Canadians would lose their lives. The Korean War was an important chapter in Canada\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s military history and part of our country\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s proud tradition of defending peace and freedom around the world.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>This year marks the 65<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended the active fighting in the Korean War.
