Red Friday in Canada\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

People in\u00c2\u00a0Canada<\/span><\/a>\u00c2\u00a0have worn red on Fridays to show support for troops serving in the\u00c2\u00a0Canadian Forces<\/span><\/a>. Red is chosen because it is an official Canadian color, and historically is a color of remembrance because it symbolizes the red poppies in\u00c2\u00a0Flanders Fields<\/span><\/a>\u00c2\u00a0and the loss of life that the country has endured.

Many positions in the House of Commons do not allow employees to dress outside of uniform, but allow staff to wear a red ribbon as a compromise. This is the only exception to these dress codes other than wearing a\u00c2\u00a0poppy<\/span><\/a>\u00c2\u00a0for\u00c2\u00a0Remembrance Day<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>

The Royal Canadian Legion in 100 Mile House celebrates Red Friday with a parade every year. \u00c2\u00a0This year it was held on June 7th. \u00c2\u00a0There were \u00c2\u00a0guest pipers from \u00c2\u00a0Williams Lake \u00c2\u00a0along with supporters of our Canadian Armed Forces , Cadets and Ex Servicemen. \u00c2\u00a0I always enjoy pipers in a parade. \u00c2\u00a0They \u00c2\u00a0remind me of my Dad when I was a kid \u00c2\u00a0every Sunday he would play his marching band records. \u00c2\u00a0He served in the Korean War and other theatres of peacekeeping \u00c2\u00a0during his time in the Canadian Armed Forces .<\/p>\n

Milliken born \u00c2\u00a0March 10, 1921 he joined the Canadian Navy at the age of 18 in May 1939. \u00c2\u00a0Mr. Milliken was a submarine detector for the duration of World War 2. \u00c2\u00a0He spent 55 months in the North Atlantic . \u00c2\u00a0He displays his medals proudly. \u00c2\u00a0Thank you for your Service Mr. Milliken~
